Portersville Christian kicked off their season on the road on Monday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell to Ellwood City 58-54. Portersville Christian lost against Ellwood City in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 47-20 score last time.
Ellwood City got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kayla Jones out in front who scored 20 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Jones has scored at least 25% of Ellwood City's points. Claire Noble was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Portersville Christian's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Ellwood City, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Portersville Christian will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Trinity Christian at 4:15 p.m. on January 6, 2024. As for Ellwood City, they will head out on the road to face off against Hopewell at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
