Piedmont is 8-2 against Encinal since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. Piedmont will challenge Encinal at 3:30 p.m. Piedmont's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Encinal's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Saturday, Piedmont was able to grind out a solid victory over Healdsburg, taking the game 4-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Highlanders.
William Ferreira looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, Piedmont's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Markos Lagios, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Lagios has posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Encinal). Everything went their way against Skyline on Friday as Encinal made off with a 14-8 victory. The Jets haven't had any issues with the Titans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Sebastian Brune looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Encinal got a massive performance out of Shaun Presley, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Encinal is undefeated when Presley posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Evan Furuichi was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.
Encinal kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Piedmont's record is now 6-2. As for Encinal, their record is now 5-3.
Piedmont took their victory against Encinal in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 13-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for Piedmont since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
