The Waynesburg Central Raiders will head out on the road to square off against the McGuffey Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Waynesburg Central is coming into the contest hot, having won their last eight games.
Waynesburg Central can now show off ten landslide victories after their most recent contest on Thursday. Everything went their way against Charleroi as Waynesburg Central made off with a 62-41 victory. Given Waynesburg Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while Charleroi is ranked 438th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Josie Horne was her usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Peyton Cowell was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, McGuffey ended up a good deal behind South Park on Thursday and lost 48-32. McGuffey was down 45-21 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Taylor Schumacher put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 23 points along with six rebounds and two steals. She is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played.
Waynesburg Central pushed their record up to 16-1 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for McGuffey, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Waynesburg Central have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like McGuffey struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Waynesburg Central against McGuffey in their previous matchup on January 4th as the team secured a 62-32 victory. With Waynesburg Central ahead 34-13 at the half, the game was all but over already.
