The Classical Academy hasn't had much luck against Elizabeth recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Titans will head out to face off against the Cardinals at 3:30 p.m. The Classical Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
The Classical Academy will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Falcon, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Titans walked away with an 11-6 win over the Falcons on Tuesday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since September 29, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Basil Murphy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Rilee Sanson was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taytum Kimbro, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
The Classical Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Falcon only managed seven.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth entered their tilt with Sierra on Thursday with 15 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 16. They never let the Stallions get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 games by six runs or more this season.
Faith Carlson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Carlson was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Aurelia Espinoza was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Larissa Wesbrook also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
The Classical Academy's record now sits at 15-5. As for Elizabeth, their record is now 20-2.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. The Classical Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .494. However, it's not like Elizabeth struggles in that department as they've averaged .512. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
The Classical Academy suffered a grim 19-1 defeat to Elizabeth in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
