The West Hills Wolf Pack will face off against the Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for West Hills: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Mater Dei Catholic has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
West Hills managed to slip by Monte Vista the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Wolf Pack came up short against the Monarchs on Tuesday, falling 8-2.
West Hills saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andy Mildenstein, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Chuck Rosolino also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Mater Dei Catholic nor West Hills made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Crusaders took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolf Pack.
Mater Dei Catholic also got a good showing from Colton Gregg, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Gregg gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2025.
At the plate, Nathan Sosa made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Xavier Jauregui, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Mater Dei Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for West Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. West Hills has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mater Dei Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
West Hills beat Mater Dei Catholic 5-2 when the teams last played on Friday. Will the Wolf Pack repeat their success, or do the Crusaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
