Los Altos and Wilcox are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Eagles will welcome the Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Los Altos 3, Wilcox 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Los Altos is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Aptos just ended the team's nine-game winning streak on Saturday. They came up short against the Mariners, falling 13-7. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Eagles, who until this contest were averaging three runs allowed.
Kyle McKinney put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. McKinney was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
McKinney wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Darrion Wesley, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another was Jagger Heath, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Wilcox entered their tilt with Evergreen Valley on Saturday with ten consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 11. They never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory. Five seems to be a good number for the Chargers as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Wilcox's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Los Altos, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-5.
Everything went Los Altos' way against Wilcox in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Los Altos made off with an 8-2 victory. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
