The Zapata Hawks will head out on the road to challenge the Port Isabel Tarpons at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Zapata will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1371st, while Port Isabel is ranked 465th).
Zapata suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 on Wednesday. Their rough 51-25 loss to La Feria might stick with them for a while. Zapata has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Port Isabel waltzed into their match on Friday with 13 straight wins but they left with 14. They snuck past Jubilee Brownsville with a 63-57 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Zapata's defeat dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Port Isabel, they pushed their record up to 20-6 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Zapata was taken down by Port Isabel 46-18 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can Zapata avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
