The McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers will head out on the road to face off against the Treutlen Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. McIntosh County Academy has given up an average of 10.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
McIntosh County Academy is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Screven County on Tuesday. They lost 15-0 to the Gamecocks. The Buccaneers have struggled against the Gamecocks recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Treutlen). They put the hurt on Warner Robins with a sharp 18-1 victory on Monday. Considering the Vikings have won ten games by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Ella Roberson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Roberson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Jayden Rogers and Maya Brinson did most of the damage at the plate: Rogers got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Brinson went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Rogers has posted since back in August. Cloey Hutcheson was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Treutlen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .724. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Treutlen has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That somehow still isn't as good as their 14-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for McIntosh County Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 9-19.
McIntosh County Academy might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Treutlen in their previous matchup last Monday. Can the Buccaneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
