The Lathrop Spartans were the 45-40 winner over the Ceres Bulldogs when they last played one another on January 4th, but their luck changed this time around. Lathrop took a 40-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ceres on Monday.
Lathrop's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shakara Porter, who scored five points along with 23 rebounds and five steals. Porter hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 22 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaleiyah Ray, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
Ceres' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sovannary Carter, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Marissa Renteria, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Lathrop has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-8 record this season. As for Ceres, their win bumped their record up to 14-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lathrop will take on Pacheco at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ceres, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Beyer at 7:15 p.m. Beyer is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
