The Monterey Trail Mustangs gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 74-33 win over McNair. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-15.
Monterey Trail's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alia Wilson led the charge by scoring 6 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cassie Hill, who scored 10 points.
Despite the loss, McNair had strong showings from Anjulie Navarro, who scored 13 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals, and Malia Do, who scored 8 points along with 5 rebounds.
Monterey Trail's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for McNair, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Monterey Trail will take on West Campus at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. West Campus will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for McNair, they will head out on the road to face off against Grant at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Grant presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than McNair in California (Grant is ranked 82nd, while McNair is ranked 676th).
