The Encina Prep Bulldogs lost against the Delta Saints back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Encina Prep took a 37-18 bruising from Delta. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Encina Prep in their matchups with Delta: they've now lost seven in a row.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maraia Rokosiga, who scored eight points.
Ayren Rapp continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Delta, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 14 steals. Rapp is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Harlie Johnson, who scored five points along with five rebounds.
Encina Prep bumped their record down to 3-9 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.3 points per game. As for Delta, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 10-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Encina Prep will challenge Woodland Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Woodland Christian's defense has only allowed 27.9 points per game this season, so Encina Prep's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Delta, they will head out on the road to square off against Forest Lake Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Julia Nguyen and Rapp.
