The Esperanza Aztecs waltzed into their game on Tuesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They walked away with a 52-41 victory over Brea Olinda. Given Esperanza's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while Brea Olinda is ranked 342nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Esperanza found their leader in underclassman Madilyn Lam, who scored 25 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Lam hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Bailey Frazier was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Despite the loss, Brea Olinda still got an impressive performance from Liz Han, who scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Henderson, who scored ten points.
Esperanza pushed their record up to 18-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Brea Olinda, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-16.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Esperanza will take on El Dorado at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. El Dorado is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games. As for Brea Olinda, they will be playing at home against Foothill at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Foothill focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Tuesday.
