It was a good run, but the Crenshaw Cougars unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 62-46 bruising from Harvard-Westlake. Crenshaw lost against the Wolverines in their previous head to head back in November of 2015, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 70-10 score last time.
Deana Thompson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Harvard-Westlake, scoring 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Thompson hasn't dropped below 16 points for three straight games. Madison Gillett was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Crenshaw's loss dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Harvard-Westlake, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-15 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Crenshaw's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Pathfinders at 4:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Fremont will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 612th, while the Cougars are ranked 189th). As for Harvard-Westlake, they will head out on the road to challenge the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Marlborough will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
