The Oroville Tigers were the 46-22 winner over the Wheatland Pirates when they last played one another back in February of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Oroville received a tough blow on Tuesday as they fell 42-24 to Wheatland. Oroville found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 26 to 16 on offense.
Despite the defeat, Oroville had strong showings from Rachel Bone, who scored six points along with eight rebounds, and Ayianna Herrera, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Wheatland can attribute much of their success to Kimiko Cervantes, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Cervantes has scored at least 25% of Wheatland's points. Jazzy Deluca was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with 13 rebounds.
Oroville bumped their record down to 3-10 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Wheatland, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Oroville won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Hamilton at 7:30 p.m. on December 20th. Hamilton presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Oroville in California (Hamilton is ranked 427th, while Oroville is ranked 1002nd). Wheatland will take on East Nicolaus in a holiday battle at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at. Hopefully East Nicolaus focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Saturday.
