St. Charles will head out on the road to challenge the Great Mills Hornets at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
St. Charles waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They enjoyed a cozy 61-47 victory over La Plata. Given St. Charles' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while La Plata is ranked 232nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Charles can attribute much of their success to Tajir Webster, who scored 19 points, and Xavier Buchanan, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Buchanan has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Shamir Taylor, who scored five points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Great Mills earned a 58-47 victory over North Point on Friday.
St. Charles pushed their record up to 8-3 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.5 points per game. As for Great Mills, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
St. Charles beat Great Mills 45-35 in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Does St. Charles have another victory up their sleeve, or will Great Mills turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
