Desert is 1-9 against Boron since March of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Scorpions will head out to face off against the Bobcats at 3:15 p.m. The last three games Desert has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Desert couldn't beat Frazier Mountain on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Scorpions fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 8-7. Scorpions fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Falcons since Tuesday.
Erick Cordova put in work while hitting and pitching. He tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Brecken De Santis was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Boron made sure to put some runs up on the board against California City on Tuesday. The Bobcats put the hurt on the Ravens with a sharp 21-3 victory. Considering the Bobcats have won nine contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Desert, Boron also got a great game from a two-way player: Malachi Rucker. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Rucker was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Boron is undefeated when Rucker posts three or more RBI, but 6-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Breysan Day, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Carter, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Boron was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Desert's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Boron, their record now sits at 10-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Desert has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Boron struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Desert suffered a grim 17-1 defeat to Boron when the teams last played back in March. Can the Scorpions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
