The Vaughn White Tigers will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Northridge Academy Pumas at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Vaughn scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences 68-41 at home. The victory was familiar territory for Vaughn who now have five in a row.
Andrea Cervantes was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 15 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Yamileth Ferreira, who scored 17 points along with eight assists and three steals.
Northridge Academy posted their biggest victory yet this season on Thursday. They really took it to East Valley for the full four quarters, racking up a 75-12 victory on the road. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 48-8.
Northridge Academy relied on the efforts of Priscilla Perez, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals, and Janelle Estrella, who made all 6 shots she took from beyond the arc racking up 24 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Estrella has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Estrella Alejo, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Vaughn's win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 6-13. As for Northridge Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Vaughn took a serious blow against Northridge Academy when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 62-2. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Northridge Academy's Divya Kishore, who scored 17 points along with nine steals. Now that Vaughn knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
