Even though the Colusa RedHawks have not done well against the Pierce Bears recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Colusa breezed by Pierce on the road to the tune of 51-24. Given Colusa's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 346th, while Pierce is ranked 857th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Aliah Ramirez, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Danica Chavez was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five assists.
Despite the loss, Pierce saw an underclassman step up: Magali Jauregui scored 13 points along with five rebounds. That was a full 54.2% of Pierce's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Pierce struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Colusa posted 14 assists.
The win (which was Colusa's eighth in a row) raised their record to 14-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.1 points per game. As for Pierce, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Colusa will face off against Durham at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Durham is on a three-game streak of home wins, Colusa a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Pierce, they will head out on the road to challenge Live Oak at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Live Oak has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 4.
