Basketball Game Preview: Mesquite Wildcats vs. Cactus Shadows Falcons

Mesquite is on a nine-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Cactus Shadows is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Mesquite Wildcats will welcome the Cactus Shadows Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Mesquite's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matchups.

Mesquite is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Arcadia: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Mesquite blew Arcadia out of the water with a 99-2 final score. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 contests by 24 points or more this season.

Navae Guidry continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 15 of 18 en route to 30 points and six steals. The matchup was her seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kahlia Gonzales, who posted eight points in addition to 11 assists and eight steals.

Mesquite smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 21 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Cactus Shadows beat St. Mary's 72-61 on Tuesday.

Cactus Shadows has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a massive bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.4 points per game. As for Mesquite, their victory bumped their record up to 19-1.

Everything came up roses for Mesquite against Cactus Shadows when the teams last played back in November of 2016, as the squad secured a 78-44 win. In that match, Mesquite amassed a halftime lead of 44-24, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
