The Priory Panthers will face off against the South San Francisco Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Priory is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Priory's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Thursday's struggle, when Crystal Springs Uplands hitters got past them. Priory lost 10-4 to Crystal Springs Uplands on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Panthers have suffered against the Gryphons since May 12, 2022.
Matthew Sun was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI. Kai Aalfs was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Even though they lost, Priory kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for South San Francisco, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. Everything went their way against Washington on Saturday as South San Francisco made off with an 8-1 win. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by seven runs or more this season.
Gabriel Martin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vince Bernal, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Emilio Oseguera, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
The victory got South San Francisco back to even at 3-3. As for Priory, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Priory has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like South San Francisco struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Priory couldn't quite finish off South San Francisco in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Will Priory have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
