Show Low and Blue Ridge are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2016, but not for long. The Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Show Low is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 36.3 points per game this season.
Show Low is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Round Valley just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 28-21 to the Elks. The contest was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but the Cougars couldn't quite close it out.
Even if they lost, Show Low's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Zander Perez, Dax Clark, and Talen Slone, who each picked up one sack apiece. Cameron Hernandez got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Blue Ridge, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They blew past Apache Junction 40-0 on Friday. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Yellow Jackets had established a 33-point advantage.
Blue Ridge's win came from a few key players Show Low will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Breckan Sarchet, who picked up 73 receiving yards, and also rushed for 72 yards on only eight carries. Tank Hamblin was another key player, rushing for 68 yards and one TD on only five carries.
Blue Ridge was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 226 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 209 rushing yards in three consecutive games.
Blue Ridge didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Brenton Newcomb and Waylon Peters.
Blue Ridge now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Show Low, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Show Low has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 218.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Blue Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 248.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Show Low skirted past Blue Ridge 21-18 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellow Jackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
