The Chavez Titans were the 39-35 winner over the Stagg Delta Kings when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Chavez fell 48-38 to Stagg on Thursday. Chavez has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Paulina Sanchez and Lauren Yann certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Sanchez scored nine points along with three steals, while Yann scored 13 points. Alondra Romero was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Stagg was led to victory by Destiny Martinez and Jameelah Pharms. Martinez scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Pharms scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. Pharms has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last eight times she's played.
Chavez's loss dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Stagg, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-9.
Chavez will play host again and welcome Bear Creek, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Bear Creek is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Stagg, they will head out on the road to take on Franklin at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Franklin will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1127th, while Stagg is ranked 560th).
