Even though the Hughesville Spartans have not done well against the Mount Carmel RED TORNADOES recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Hughesville came out on top against the RED TORNADOES by a score of 49-36. Given Hughesville's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the RED TORNADOES are ranked 312th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alli Anstadt was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ava Snyder, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and five blocks.
Hughesville pushed their record up to 18-3 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.1 points per game. As for Mount Carmel, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-13.
Hughesville has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Black Knights at 7:30 p.m. on February 5th. Mount Carmel does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
