You can't lose the match if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Canyon's strategy against Golden Valley on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Canyon blew Golden Valley out of the water with a 60-16 final score. With Canyon ahead 33-4 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Josie Regez was her usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-7 from long range and dropping a double-double on 43 points and 11 steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Taylor Ford, who scored two points along with five assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, Valencia escaped with a win on Tuesday against West Ranch by the margin of a single free throw, 44-43. The victory was just what Valencia needed coming off of a 93-14 loss in their prior matchup.
Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-12 record this season. As for Valencia, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-15.
Canyon beat Valencia 46-34 in their previous matchup on January 2nd. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Valencia's Cara McKell, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 12 rebounds.
