Mt. Vernon is 8-2 against Marion since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Mt. Vernon Rams will head out on the road to square off against the Marion Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Mt. Vernon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Mt. Vernon lost to Manual on the road by a decisive 57-43 margin.
Despite the defeat, Mt. Vernon got a solid performance out of Navontae D nesbit jr., who scored 22 points along with five rebounds. Marlin Price was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Meanwhile, Marion was able to grind out a solid win over McCracken County on Tuesday, taking the game 48-37. The victory was all the more spectacular given Marion's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 132nd in Illinois, while McCracken County is ranked 31st in Kentucky).
Mt. Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 20-8. As for Marion, they pushed their record up to 18-11 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home.
Mt. Vernon didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Marion in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 48-42 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mt. Vernon since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
