MaxPreps 2015-16 Hawaii preseason high school boys basketball Fab 5, presented by the Army National Guard

1. 'Iolani (Honolulu)
Head coach: Dean Shimamoto
2014-15 record: 18-8

The Raiders finished just 8-4 in league play last year, but they advanced to the state championship game where they fell to Kalaheo, 53-46. Always one of the top programs in Hawaii, 'Iolani returns all-state honorable mention selections Zach Gelacio (5-foot-9, senior), Hugh Hogland (6-8, junior) and Robert Mann (6-1, senior).

2. Maryknoll (Honolulu)
Head coach: Kelly Grant
2014-15 record: 12-10

The Spartans have size with 6-5 sophomore Brian Washington and 6-5 junior Justice Sueing. Washington averaged 9.1 points and earned honorable mention all-state honors while Sueing made the second team after averaging 17.9 points per game. Maryknoll didn't make the postseason last year after finishing in the middle of the league standings.

3. Mid-Pacific Institute (Honolulu)
Head coach: Ryan Hirata
2014-15 record: 9-17

The Owls showed a lot of improvement last year under ILH Coach of the Year Ryan Hirata and could soar even higher this year. Mid-Pacific returns one of the league's top players in Daniel Florenco, a 5-9 guard who averaged 10.4 points per game last year.

4. Punahou (Honolulu)
Head coach: Darren Matsuda
2014-15 record: 24-5

The Buff 'n Blue lose their top three scorers from last year's team, including all-state picks Justin Kam and Dayson Watanabe. Punahou lost in the second round of the state tournament last year after earning the No. 1 seed. However, 6-5 senior center Akahi Troske returns after averaging 7.3 points last season. Chris Kobayashi, a junior guard, also returns after averaging 5.2 points as a sophomore.

5. Leilehua (Wahiawa)
Head coach: Pat Wetzel
2014-15 record: 18-10

The Mighty Mules had one of the state's top guards last year in Joseph Gouty, who earned third team all-state honors. He averaged 13.2 points per game last year. Leilehua also returns 6-6 senior Koa Kauhi, who averaged 8.3 points last year, and Anterrio Gainwell, a 6-foot forward who averaged 5.4 points per game.
