The Garinger Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 30 points or more this season. They took their game on the road on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 67-37 win over East Mecklenburg. Given Garinger's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while East Mecklenburg is ranked 453rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Misa Garris continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 31 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. The match was her ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Hawah Donzo, who scored eight points.
Despite the defeat, East Mecklenburg had strong showings from Monica Fakamus, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds, and Jade Marshall, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Those eight rebounds set a new season-high mark for her.
Garinger's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.5 points per game. As for East Mecklenburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.
Garinger will be home for the holidays to greet Independence at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Independence focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Tuesday. As for East Mecklenburg, they will head out on the road to face off against Butler at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Butler focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Tuesday.
