Half Moon Bay is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest defeat since April 30, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Terra Nova by a score of 3-1. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost four in a row.
Half Moon Bay saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maverick Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, University came tearing into Friday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. Considering the Red Devils have won six games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Marco Parcella made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Alexander Coleman was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Quincy Nash was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
University kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
University's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Half Moon Bay, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
