Kellen Barclay-McCall and Foster Rovin did some serious damage despite the final result: Barclay-McCall got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one double, while Rovin went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Sage Creek is 2-1 when Barclay-McCall posts two or more runs, but 3-13 otherwise. Lucas Henson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
As for Torrey Pines, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-8. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.
On Torrey Pines' side, Cullen Green and Ethan Shi made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Green didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Shi tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Green has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Green got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Shi went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Dylan Hood was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Camden Nishnick, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
While Sage Creek had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
