Baseball Recap: Liberty County Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Liberty County waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the First Preparatory Christian Academy Highlanders a 10-0 shutout. While the Panthers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-15-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Caden Chancey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Landon Usher and Glemon English did most of the damage at the plate: Usher went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one double, while English went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. The dominant performance gave Usher a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Bryce Coley, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Liberty County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matches.

Liberty County's record now sits at 8-3. As for First Preparatory Christian Academy, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Liberty County will challenge Calvary Day at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for First Preparatory Christian Academy, they will square off against Coastal HomeSchool at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
