Basketball Recap: Abby Barley Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Claysburg-Kimmel

While Ferndale didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They managed a 37-31 win over the Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs on Friday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 55-43 on December 7th.

Ferndale got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Abby Barley out in front who posted 14 points and four steals. That's the most steals Barley has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Lindsey Leverknight, who earned four points along with ten boards and four steals.

Ferndale smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Claysburg-Kimmel lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Erika Feathers, who put up six points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Francona, who had four points in addition to 18 rebounds and three steals.

Ferndale's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. As for Claysburg-Kimmel, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Ferndale wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 48-42 victory against Conemaugh Valley on the 28th. As for Claysburg-Kimmel, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 48-29 win against Shade on the 28th.
