Football Recap: Archbishop Riordan Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Archbishop Riordan extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping them up to 5-0. They blew past the Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory Fightin' Irish 56-30. The Crusaders' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Michael Mitchell Jr. had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 338 yards and four TDs, while also rushing for 61 yards on only six carries. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in November of 2024. Adonyae Brown helped out on the ground, rushing for 97 yards.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Archbishop Riordan's defense and their six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Zachary Kleppin and Dj Sanchez, who racked up four sacks between them.

As for Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, their record now sits at 3-2. They have struggled against Archbishop Riordan recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Sargent, who threw for 267 yards and four touchdowns. Chase Jenkins did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 120 receiving yards.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Archbishop Riordan will host St. Ignatius College Preparatory at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Crusaders will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 26.5 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, they will be playing at home against Junipero Serra at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
