In Alabama, the longest losing streak in high school football history continued Friday as Columbia (Huntsville) fell in its final game of the season 24-14 to Hazel Green. The Eagles head into 2025 with 91 consecutive setbacks.
Columbia last won Oct. 16, 2015, beating Ardmore 34-16. The streak began the following week with a 38-22 loss to Johnson (Hunstville).
The Eagles trailed Hazel Green 18-14 halfway through the fourth quarter on Friday. But Columbia was forced to punt deep in its own territory. Two plays later, Cam Moore plunged in from three years out to put the Trojans up 24-14 with 6:19 to play.
Following the Hazel Green score, Columbia moved the ball into Trojan territory before being stopped on fourth down with just over 3 minutes to play.
Friday's game was among the closest calls to snapping the losing streak. Columbia fell 27-20 to Lee (Hunstville) in the finale of the 2016 season when the streak was at 12 games. There was also a 10-point loss in 2020 where they scored 40 points, the largest offensive output during the 91-game slide.
"I really want to change this," Columbia junior Hakim Dunnigan told
television station WAAY in a preseason preview.
Columbia has been playing varsity football for 17 seasons with a 31-156-0 record and has yet to make the postseason.
