Bonita and South Hills are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Bonita Bearcats will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the South Hills Huskies at 3:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Bonita: 3.4, South Hills: 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Bonita fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Charter Oak on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 3-2. The Bearcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Adam Raab was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Austin Owens was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, South Hills has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.75 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Wednesday. They lost 10-3 to Bishop Amat.
South Hills also got a good showing from Justin Romero, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Romero posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, South Hills saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabriel Guerrero, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Guerrero also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season.
Even though they lost, South Hills hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.
South Hills' loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Bonita, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Bonita skirted past South Hills 4-2 when the teams last played last Saturday. Will Bonita repeat their success, or does South Hills have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
