The Point Loma Pointers will take on the Granite Hills Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Point Loma 1.5, Granite Hills 2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Point Loma will bounce into Monday's match after beating Eastlake, who they had gone 0-5 against in their five prior meetings. Point Loma had just enough and edged out Eastlake 4-3 on Friday. The victory was familiar territory for the Pointers, who have now won four games in a row.
Marviel Underwood looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hunter Reddeg, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Ben Waterman, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Granite Hills took on Scripps Ranch on Friday. Granite Hills was the clear victor by a 7-1 margin over Scripps Ranch. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Eagles have posted against the Falcons since March 23, 2017.
Granite Hills also got a great performance from Josh Butters as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Butters a new career-high in strikeouts (three).
On the hitting side, Tommy Entrekin was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Anthony Miotti was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Granite Hills pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Point Loma, their record is now 5-1.
Everything went Point Loma's way against Granite Hills when the teams last played back in March of 2023, as Point Loma made off with a 6-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Point Loma since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
