The South San Francisco Warriors will face off against the Summit Shasta Black Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. South San Francisco is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for South San Francisco after they put the first points on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 8-5 to Mills.
South San Francisco saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabriel Martin, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Martin also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Summit Shasta). They put the hurt on Jefferson with a sharp 22-1 win on Tuesday. The Black Bears haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Maxwell Espinola was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Summit Shasta let Milo Jung and Caden Frost run wild. Jung went 2-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one double, while Frost went 3-for-5 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI Frost has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Benedict Del Rosario, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-1.
Summit Shasta kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
The win got Summit Shasta back to even at 2-2. As for South San Francisco, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 2-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South San Francisco has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Summit Shasta struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
South San Francisco suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Summit Shasta when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can South San Francisco avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
