Richland is 6-0 against Denton since January of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Richland Royals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Denton Broncos at 7:30 p.m. Richland is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home.
Richland fought the good fight in their overtime match against Grapevine on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 53-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs.
Meanwhile, Denton also fell in overtime action on Friday. They fell to Argyle 46-40. While losing is never fun, Denton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 403rd, while Argyle is ranked 24th).
Despite the defeat, Denton had strong showings from Ethan Sheats, who scored 13 points, and Chase Thomas, who scored 12 points.
Richland's loss dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Denton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-16 record this season.
Richland didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Denton when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 57-51 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Denton's Mj Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds.
