The Polk County Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Sweetwater Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Polk County fell victim to Meigs County's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a 7-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. While losing is never fun, Polk County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 247th, while Meigs County is ranked 73rd).
Meanwhile, Sweetwater's recent rough patch got a bit rougher two weeks ago after their fifth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 27-0 loss at the hands of Loudon.
This is the second loss in a row for Polk County and nudges their season record down to 3-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-2 Bledsoe County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 87.5% over those games). As for Sweetwater, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-6.
Polk County took a serious blow against Sweetwater when the teams last played back in October of 2020, falling 49-0. Can Polk County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
