Workman's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Iris Campos led the charge by putting up nine points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. Campos has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 14 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hilary Lomeli, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten boards.
Workman smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.
Gabrielino meant business on Thursday, getting buckets from all over the court against a Cougars squad that has allowed just 24.24 points per contest. Gabrielino claimed a resounding 55-21 win over Calvary Baptist. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 21 points or more this season.
Workman better keep an eye on Ava Yamashita. She was instrumental in Gabrielino's win, scoring 12 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists. Those seven assists gave Yamashita a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kimiko Nagata, who posted ten points and four steals.
Gabrielino pushed their record up to 14-10 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 18.0 points over those games. As for Workman, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Workman has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 35.7 boards per game. However, it's not like Gabrielino struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Workman lost to Gabrielino on the road by a decisive 58-40 margin when the teams last played back in December of 2016. Thankfully for Workman, Amanda Lee (who went 10-for-15 on her way to 26 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
