Basketball Recap: Marquez Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Magaly Gonzalez and Corshell Vaughn

Marquez lost against Huntington Park back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Marquez Gladiators took a 46-28 bruising from the Huntington Park Spartans.

Marquez's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Corshell Vaughn, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 16 rebounds, and Magaly Gonzalez, who posted 12 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Vaughn has been hot for a while, having posted 12 or more boards the last 24 times she's played.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Huntington Park to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kandie Chavez, who had 26 points. Those 26 points gave Chavez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ingryd Hernandez, who put up 16 points.

Marquez now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Huntington Park, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2.

Marquez and Math & Science College Preparatory will face off at 12:40 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Math & Science College Preparatory's defense has only allowed 26 points per game this season, so Marquez's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Huntington Park, they and San Fernando will face off at 2:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played.
