Baseball Game Preview: Polytechnic Panthers vs. Arroyo Valley Hawks

The Polytechnic Panthers will face off against the Arroyo Valley Hawks at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Polytechnic is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.

Last Monday, Polytechnic came up short against Temple City and fell 7-3.

Polytechnic saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caiden Kennedy, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave Kennedy a new career-high in hits. Will Oreck also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Arroyo Valley made sure to put some runs up on the board against JW North on Tuesday. Arroyo Valley blew past JW North 10-1.

Jake Jimenez and Ian Escobar made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Jimenez tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Meanwhile, Escobar pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Arroyo Valley is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-2 otherwise. At bat, Jimenez scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Escobar scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Michael Rosas was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Arroyo Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as JW North only posted an OBP of .200.

Polytechnic's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Arroyo Valley, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Everything went Polytechnic's way against Arroyo Valley in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Polytechnic made off with an 8-1 win. Will Polytechnic repeat their success, or does Arroyo Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
