Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 16 to 5 on the offensive boards, a fact the Cambria Heights Highlanders proved on Friday. They came out on top against Conemaugh Township by a score of 42-33. The win made it back-to-back wins for Cambria Heights.
Cambria Heights got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sienna Kirsch out in front who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Kirsch is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last five games she's played. Gracey Vinglish was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three blocks.
Conemaugh Township's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jenna Brenneman, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and five blocks. Another player making a difference was Mayce Kordell, who scored five points.
Cambria Heights has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. As for Conemaugh Township, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cambria Heights will face off against Rockwood at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Rockwood is on a three-game streak of home wins, Cambria Heights a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Conemaugh Township, they will head out on the road to face off against Northern Cambria at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Conemaugh Township focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday.
