Baseball Recap: Overfelt Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

Overfelt got themselves on the board against James Lick on Thursday, but James Lick never followed suit. They blew past the Comets 16-0. The result was nothing new for the Royals, who have now won four matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.

HUGO JERONIMO and ELIJAH CASTANEDA-AZCUETA were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, JERONIMO struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, CASTANEDA-AZCUETA tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. JERONIMO has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. At bat, JERONIMO scored a run and stole two bases, while CASTANEDA-AZCUETA scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. CASTANEDA-AZCUETA has become a key player for Overfelt: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, BRANDON GONZALEZ was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Overfelt's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of DECIMUS LACAYO, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Overfelt always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .759. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .595 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Overfelt's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for James Lick, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Overfelt will host Gunderson at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gunderson has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.8 runs per game on average), something Overfelt will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for James Lick, they will look to defend their home field on the 5th against Lynbrook at 11:00 a.m.
