The Carter Lions are taking a road trip to challenge the Arroyo Valley Hawks at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Carter has four straight victories, Arroyo Valley has 13 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Carter came out on top against Rialto on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run first inning. The Lions walked away with a 9-4 win over the Knights. With that victory, the Lions brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Aaron Hernandez made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hernandez was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Xavier Gutierrez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Corona, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Carter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .346 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Arroyo Valley fell victim to Colton and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellowjackets. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Hawks were not able to get on the board.
Carter now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Arroyo Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-10.
Arroyo Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Carter hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. It's a different story for Arroyo Valley, though, as they've only averaged .177. Will they be able to contain Carter's hitters?
