Flint River Academy and Lafayette Christian are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Wildcats will square off against the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Flint River Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Flint River Academy made easy work of Windsor Academy and carried off a 14-1 win. The Wildcats have beaten the Knights the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Knights has come to flipping the script.
Ethan Newman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Jones, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. J. Stanton Pritchard was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Lafayette Christian unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak last Thursday. They fell just short of Creekside Christian Academy by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, Lafayette Christian couldn't push the score so high this time.
Lafayette Christian saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Childree, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Flint River Academy's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Lafayette Christian, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 14-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Flint River Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lafayette Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Flint River Academy took their victory against Lafayette Christian in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 9-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
