St. Lucy has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Rancho Cucamonga Cougars at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Lucy's comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 18 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
St. Lucy's suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Thursday. They were dealt a 64-5 defeat at the hands of Los Osos. While losing is never fun, St. Lucy's can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 983rd, while Los Osos is ranked 55th).
Even though Rancho Cucamonga has not done well against Chino Hills recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Rancho Cucamonga came out on top against Chino Hills by a score of 51-41. The victory was just what Rancho Cucamonga needed coming off of a 80-24 loss in their prior game.
St. Lucy's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 9-9. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.3 points per game. As for Rancho Cucamonga, their victory bumped their record up to 15-6.
St. Lucy's was taken down by Rancho Cucamonga 73-11 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point St. Lucy's was down 47-6.
