If Maury was riding high  fresh off their  3-0 takedown of Cape Henry Collegiate on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Commodores fell just short of the Granby Comets by a score of  3-2 on Wednesday. The Commodores' loss signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.
 Maury started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 23-25, 25-14, 25-19,  15-11.
 Luke Shomaker paced Maury's offense, picking up 14 kills. Shomaker got some help from  Keegan Anuar and his 28 assists.  Andrew Smith controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.
 Granby can attribute much of their success to  Davis Mendoza, who  had 17  digs and two assists. That's the most  digs  Mendoza has posted since back in September.
Maury's defeat dropped their record down to 14-3. As for Granby, the  victory was  the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 19-2.
 Both  squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maury will host Princess Anne  at 5:30  p.m.  on Monday. As for Granby, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Indian River  at 5:30  p.m.  on Tuesday.
