The Pomona Red Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Garey, falling 67-21. Pomona has struggled against Garey recently, as their match on Wednesday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Garey to victory, but perhaps none more so than Armani Owens, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds. The matchup was Owens' 14th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Herrera , who scored 29 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Pomona's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.3 points per game. As for Garey, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-4.
After both having extra time off, Pomona and Bassett will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 4:45 p.m. on January 10, 2024. Bassett comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 16 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Garey will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Edgewood at 4:45 p.m. on January 10, 2024.
