Video: Top 25 national girls basketball rankings
See who the top teams in the nation are.
It's automatic every Monday and Tuesday during the girls prep basketball season. High school basketball fans from all corners of the state login to their computers hoping the school they are loyal to moved up in the rankings, took over the top spot, or made the climb into the rankings.
But what about the national rankings? Oh what a coup that would be, to find your alma mater alongside traditional powers La Jolla Country Day (La Jolla, Calif.), Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) or Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.). Heck, landing a Top 100 ranking would be pretty cool, too.
Well, this week we did that work for you. Scouring through the MaxPreps National Rankings, we unearthed the current national ranking for each member of Nebraska's Top 10 girls basketball teams.
While the Cornhusker State is not represented in the Top 25, or the Top 100, top-ranked Crete did climb 69 spots to No. 300. Lincoln Pius X, Nebraska's No. 2 club, is now a member of the Top 350 at No. 341 and Millard South sits in at 355th.
Hastings St. Cecilia and Lincoln East round out this week's Top 5 at 542nd and 577th respectively out of the 17,167 schools that now reside in MaxPreps' girls basketball national rankings database.
Classes A, B, C1 and C2 are all represented in this week's Top 10. But that does not mean that some of Nebraska's small school programs do not hold high national rankings.
Pleasanton, the top squad in Class D1, ranks 16th in Nebraska and 1,388th nationally, while Class D2's No. 1 club Falls City Sacred Heart is ranked 18th in the Cornhusker State and 1,441st in the national rankings. Besides the Top 10 teams, Class A No. 6 North Platte, Nebraska's No. 11 squad, also ranks in the nation's Top 1,000 at 936th.
We used Tuesday's rankings for this week's Top 10. As you browse through the Top 10, listed on the top line is the name of the school, its won-loss record through last weekend's competition in parentheses, the school's scoring differential and its MaxPreps power ranking.
The third line and beyond is reserved for last weekend's result(s) for the school. If the school did not play over the weekend, we included the result of its last contested basketball game going into the weekend. This week's competition is not recorded since it did not impact Tuesday's rankings.
