Softball Recap: Brookstone Starts Season with Victory at Home

Brookstone gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Shaw Raiders by a score of 10-6. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the 13-8 win the Raiders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

Mary Carter Fort made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Fort was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Louise Gudger was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Rachel Knipe, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Brookstone always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shaw only posted an OBP of .387.

Shaw is on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Brookstone will challenge Southland Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Shaw, they will host Manchester at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.25 runs per game on average), something the Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
